RIW Card Expiry FAQ: What Workers and Employers Need to Know

Do RIW cards expire?

No. RIW cards do not expire. After the June 2026 update there is no fixed card lifespan and no requirement to renew or replace your card on a set schedule.

Why does my card show an expiry date of 31/12/9999?

Following the June 2026 update, RIW cards will still display a system expiry date of 31/12/9999. This is just a placeholder used during the transition period and simply indicates that no fixed expiry applies. This field will be removed in a future release.

Do I need to renew my card?

No, you do not need to take any action. If your card is valid, then it will remain valid.

I was expecting a renewal prompt — why hasn't it appeared?

The 5-year card renewal cycle has been removed. If you were expecting a renewal prompt, no action is required — your card is still valid and no renewal is needed.

What if I need a replacement card (lost, stolen, or damaged)?

Contact your Primary Employer or submit an RIW Update Existing Worker Service Request to arrange a replacement. Losing or damaging your card does not affect your RIW profile or compliance status.

Will there be further changes?

Yes. The 31/12/9999 expiry date display is an interim step. The expiry date field will be removed from cards in a future release as part of the broader transition to the 10-year identity check model.
