How does an Access Controller or Spot Checker change the location in the Web Card Reader?

This article details how an Access Controller or Spot Checker can change the location of their Network, Project, Site or Zone through the Web Card Reader.

This instruction applies to the following RIW System User Roles:

  • Assessor
  • Spot Checker

Step 1: Log in to the RIW System

Go to click on the Web Card Reader link, or alternatively, go direct to the Web Card Reader at

Step 2: Accessing Web Card Reader

Follow the instructions for initialising the Web Card Reader in the RIW Knowledge Centre Article How to use the Web Card Reader, as these steps can be quite detailed for first time use.

Step 3: Access Sub-Menu

To change the swipe location, access the sub-menu by clicking on the users photo in the top right-hand corner of the Home page.  Then click on Change Location.

Step 4: Change Location

The change location option allows the cardholder’s Network, project, site and zone to be changed.

Make any changes to the current location by selecting new options from drop-down lists. Select the Proceed button when the new location is correct. All subsequent swipes will be recorded at the new location.

IMPORTANT: The history for swipes, spot checks and competencies are only shown for the last 12 hours. If the Access Controller/Spot Checker uses the Change Location option, the swipes, spot checks and competency histories will be cleared if either the Network, project or site are changed. If only the zone is changed, the history is retained.
