How does an Access Controller view and award pending site-based competencies using the Web Card Reader?
Pending Site-Based Competencies can be awarded to cardholders by an Access Controller through the Web Card Reader.
This instruction applies to the following RIW System User Roles:
- Access Controller
Step 1: Log in to the RIW System
Go to https://app.riw.net.au click on the Web Card Reader link, or alternatively, go direct to the Web Card Reader at https://cardchecker.riw.net.au/login.

Step 2: Accessing Web Card Reader
Follow the instructions for initialising the Web Card Reader in the RIW Knowledge Centre Article How to use the Web Card Reader, as these steps can be quite detailed for first time use.
Step 3: Sub Menu
Click on the Photo at the top right hand side of the screen to access the sub menu.
Step 4: Location Requirements
Click on Location Requirements
Step 5: Listing of Location Requirements
The location requirements option shows any pre-requisite site-based competencies required for cardholders to gain access to the current location.
The competencies can be awarded to cardholders at this point or later, if more convenient. To award from this view, select the relevant competency from the list and click the Award button.
Note: Having selected a competency from a long list, should the Award button remain inactive, scroll to the bottom of the list and you will find that an Expiry Date is required before being allowed to proceed with awarding the competency
Step 6: Award Mode Options
Select the appropriate icon (Camera, QR Scanner or Forgotten Card) and read/retrieve a worker’s card, following the onscreen instructions.
Click the Award button.
Repeat for each cardholder
Step 7: Awarding complete
Once the pending competencies have been awarded to all the relevant cardholders, return to the Competencies tab, select Choose Competency then the Scheduled tab. Click on the sub-menu of the relevant competency and select Mark as complete as shown below:
The competency will be removed from the list of scheduled competencies.
